The National Weather Service in Seattle has downgraded the flood peak for the Skagit River.

Originally, the river was expected to reach peak at 24.5 feet on Sunday morning, but the NWS said Sunday afternoon the river is now expected to rise above flood state Sunday evening and crest at 30.19 on Monday afternoon. It’s then expected to fall below flood stage early Tuesday morning.

Flood waters are expected to impact low-lying farmlands and residential areas from Sedro Woolley downstream through Mount Vernon.

A flood warning is in effect for several areas along the Nooksack River affecting Whatcom County and the Samish River in Skagit County. Read more here for details.

Thankfully, the NWS said the Nooksack River is lower than the Everson overflow flood two weeks ago.

The City of Sumas sent an alert to residents Saturday night, urging people to evacuate as a precaution based on the potential for flooding on Sunday.

“Life safety is our primary concern,” the city posted on Facebook. “We will be using the flood siren when the water from the Nooksack River comes over Main Street in Everson as a notification.”

If residents don’t have a place to go, the city says the Red Cross is set up at the Lynden fairgrounds.

In the past 48 hours, the National Weather Service reported the following rain totals (2:53 p.m. Sunday):

Bellevue – 0.68 to 1.17 in
Seattle – 0.5 to 0.86 in
Sammamish – 0.56 in
Woodinville – 0.58 in
North Bend – 0.93 to 2.49 in
Bainbridge Island – 0.76 in
Tacoma – 0.53 to 1.42 in
Bellingham – 1.2 in
Everett – 0.55 in
Olympia – 0.79 to 1.58 in
