Police shoot and kill south Seattle burglary suspect who fatally stabbed K-9 police dog

Police shot and killed a burglary suspect in south Seattle Wednesday.
The Seattle Police Department reports that the resident of a home in the 2200 block of South Eddy called 911 and indicated that a man, armed with a knife, was breaking into his home.
Police arrived on scene with a K-9 police dog and chased the suspect. The dog “engaged” the man, who then stabbed and killed the K-9.
SPD also reports that the suspect “injured an officer in an ensuing struggle,” at which time the suspect was killed by police.

“The Force Investigation Team will investigate the officer-involved shooting,” an SPD update reads. “Representatives of the Office of Police Accountability and the Office of Inspector General also responded to the scene.”
Video of the incident will be released within 72 hours of the incident, which occurred at 2:45 p.m. Jan. 5.
Officers held a procession for beloved K-9 officer “Jedi,” who was “involved in many successful tracks, searches and apprehensions over five years serving the people of Seattle,” according to an SPD social media post.
