Drivers who found themselves moving at a crawl on southbound I-405 Thursday morning were most likely delayed by a street sweeper that caught fire.

The sweeper broke down near State Route 522 in Bothell just after 7 a.m., KIRO Radio’s Chris Sullivan reports. The fire and emergency response blocked all lanes but the express toll lane for more than 10 minutes.

KIRO 7’s Alexis Smith called I-405 a “parking lot,” due to the fire.

The backup was at least six miles. Chris Sullivan says it caused at least a 20-minute delay between Lynnwood and Bellevue, making the drive about an hour.

The street sweeper was towed away around 7:40 a.m.
