President Joe Biden has indicated that the price of gas is going to get worse before it gets better. (Insert groan here!) And if Thursday’s average price of $4.90 a gallon is any indication, then we better buckle up because it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

In the first week of March, gas prices in the Seattle metropolitan area — covering Seattle, Everett, and Bellevue — rose from $4.18 a gallon to to $4.63, before ballooning to $4.89 just three days after that.

However, just because gas is going up doesn’t mean that we can’t save.

Here’s a list we complied of the top 10 ways to save at the pump:

10. Plan. Be calculated when you run errands. If you are off during the week, run your errands during non-peak hours.

9. Download gas-saving apps like Gas Buddy. If the Gas Buddy site is down (which it has been lately due to so many downloads), use WAZE or Mapquest.

8. Fill up at Costco or Sam’s Club if you’re a member. Keep in mind their gas prices go up or down daily.

7. Use your credit card cashback rewards.

6. Sign up for Fuel Rewards.

5. Get those scheduled oil changes, tire rotations, and tune-ups.

4. Cash is king! Pay cash when you can.

3. Fill up using regular instead of premium.

2. Network and find a neighborhood carpool.

1. Use public transportation.

Keep these tips in mind while commuting. If you have a tip not mentioned, please share it with KIRO Newsradio traffic reporter Micki Gamez here.
