More gunfire catches bystander near Seattle

Another innocent person was caught in the middle of flying bullets north of Seattle, on I-5 between Marysville and Everett.

Trooper Keith Leary with the Washington State Patrol says the man was driving northbound around 1 p.m. Saturday, when he saw a couple of drivers engaged in road rage. He thought he heard his tire blow, but when he pulled over he found a bullet hole just behind the driver’s door.

“He wasn’t able to get the license plate number of the vehicle, a good driver description or anything. The only description that he was able to give us was a black Mercedes or a black Mercedes-type vehicle,” says Trooper Leary.

The victim, a Stanwood man, was driving alone in his Ford Mustang. No one was hurt.

Just one day earlier, bullets flew in two separate shootings in Seattle. First, on Rainier Avenue South, a light blue SUV pulled up next to a black pickup truck and opened fire.

The two victims in the pickup, a young man and a young woman, took themselves to Harborview Medical Center. A few hours later, Seattle police found what they think is the suspected shooter’s abandoned SUV.

Then, around 5 p.m. Friday, shots were fired near the intersection of 23rd Avenue South and South Jackson. Police say that a young male shooter was blasting away at another group of young men.

Seattle Police received multiple 911 calls and got tips from several people on the street.

“We wanted to thank all the members of the community who called 911 to report this incident, and also those who provided information to our officers. It really helped in locating this suspect,” says Seattle Detective Jeff Kappel.

Officers found and arrested the suspected shooter, with his gun, hiding in a clothing store nearby.
