More than a dozen people and three businesses lost their homes and livelihoods as a fire ripped through Lynnwood last night.

Lynnwood police announced the two-alarm fire at 11:30 p.m. at the 19100 block of Highway 99, as firefighters at the scene worked to contain the blaze.

Reports of power outages in the area caused by the fire, cleared up around 5:50 a.m. when Snohomish County Public Utility District reported only one power outage, which has since been resolved.

South County Fire Department said that a sign shop, auto glass shop, and a towing company were among the storefronts damaged by fire, as well as the nearby Lynn Ree Apartment complex. While no apartments were destroyed in the fire several have sustained serious amounts of damage, causing residents to be displaced.

“Firefighters kept the flames from spreading to a nearby apartment building. Residents were evacuated. Some apartments sustained smoke damage. At least eight residents were displaced and are receiving assistance from Red Cross,” Leslie Hynes, the South County Fire Department Public Information Officer said in a statement to MyNorthwest.com.

No injuries have been reported at the time of publication.
