The restaurant recommended on this week’s Seattle Kitchen is being praised by the show staff for its “guts.”

Grabbing a plate of cold chicken and mayonnaise out of the fridge may seem like something you do only in the privacy of your own home, but the bold move is a hugely popular item on Cafe Presse’s menu.

“That’s the whole dish,” said Seattle Kitchen host Tom Douglas, “a cold chicken on the menu that you just pick apart with your fingers, dip in classic mayonnaise, and that’s really it.”

Seattle Kitchen co-host Thierry Rautureau said the dish is like a deconstructed chicken sandwich, and “man it’s delicious.”

“It would never have occurred to me to put a cold roast chicken on my menu and yet I order it every time I go there,” said Douglas, adding it appears, by its presence on nearly every table, to be one of their most popular offerings.

“I just thought it really said something about the restaurant,” said Douglas. “It just really said something about their ability to just say, this is delicious we’re putting it on the menu.”

In addition to the chicken, the Seattle Kitchen staff agrees overall the food is delicious and edible.

Katie O loves the atmosphere.

“They’ve created the correct atmosphere that feels very authentic to go along with it. The servers are lean and beautiful and very kind of European.”

Rautureau suggests trying the onion soup – Soupe a l’oignon gratinee, which is giant, and the steak-frites, sauce au taleggio, champignons rotis.

Not only is it affordable, everyone loves that Cafe Presse is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late nights.

“Late night is particularly good,” said Katie O. “Being up on Capitol Hill, for everyone that’s up there partying a little bit late. You want something to kind of soak up all that alcohol you’ve been consuming all night. You can go down there and it’s a really great scene, and the menu is full on all day long.”

Cafe Presse is open every day from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Seattle Kitchen can be heard on the new 97.3 KIRO FM weekends on Saturday at 8 a.m, Sunday at 10 a.m. and ON DEMAND anytime at MyNorthwest.com.
