Convicted rapist Byron Scherf is charged with killing prison guard Jayme Biendl in the prison chapel.
The prison chapel where guard Jayme Biendl was murdered last year could be reopened to inmates by this summer.
The chapel has been closed since Biendl’s murder as leaders of the state prison at Monroe decided how to make it safer.
The Everett Herald reports work is about to begin on $50,000 worth of improvements. Half of that money will go to new security cameras to make sure the entire area is covered by surveillance. The rest will go to better lighting and brighter paint.
The improvements will be paid for by a combination of state funds and money collected from inmates and their families for phone calls and cable TV.
Convicted rapist Byron Scherf is charged with killing Biendl. Scherf could face the death penalty.
