Winter weather conditions close North Cascades Highway for the season

Update 11/8 12:56 p.m.:
WSDOT has announced that they will not be reopening State Route 20 between mileposts 134 to 171. Crews assessed the highway Monday and decided to keep the road closed for the rest of the season.
This is earlier than the highway is usually closed, but not the earliest. The earliest the road has been closed for the season was in 2003, when SR 20 closed on Oct. 17.
The road will be reopened once conditions improve, either in late April or early May. The earliest the road has reopened was March 10 in 2005, and the latest it reopened was June 14 in 1974.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has announced Wednesday they will be closing parts of the North Cascades Highway until at least next week due to weather conditions.
Starting at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, SR 20 will be closed from milepost 134 to 171.
Rain, wind, and snow storms could be coming to Seattle soon
The closure is due to fears of the possibility of an avalanche.

WSDOT said that they will reassess whether or not to reopen the road early next week.
