State considers tax replacement for electronic vehicles

At least one incentive to own an electric car may be flying out the window.

The Washington State Senate has passed a bill to charge owners $100 each year to compensate for the lack of gas taxes they pay.

The senator who sponsored the bill says electronic vehicles are good for the environment, but produce the same wear and tear on state roads as gas vehicles do.

The gas tax in Washington state is just over $0.37 cents per gallon, and is the largest source of the state’s transportation dollars.

The bill now moves on to the state house for a vote.
