A couple of dangerous intersections in Edmonds now have red-light cameras, which will be activated on Friday.

According to the Everett Herald, there were more than a dozen crashes at 220th Street Southwest and Highway 99, and at the intersection of 100th Avenue West and Edmonds Way, between 2020 and 2022.

For the next month, drivers who run red lights at those intersections will receive warnings.

Starting April 28, they’ll face $145 tickets.

Stopping behavior before it is ‘fatal’

“These cameras have been proven to be effective in reducing crashes and serious injuries,” said Mayor Mike Rosen in a post on the Edmonds Police Department’s Facebook page. “We want to stop this behavior in Edmonds before it becomes fatal and ensure our roads are safe for drivers and pedestrians.”

“Traffic safety remains a top priority for Edmonds PD,” the post continued, “In addition to the camera enforcement systems, Edmonds Police will continue to maintain a presence and conduct speed enforcement throughout the city.”
