A card and flowers are nice, but aren’t necessarily what moms want on Mother’s Day.

Ursula Reutin, co-host of “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio, said a lot of moms just want a worry-free day to themselves.

“It is a day of relaxation, if you can allow,” she said. “A lot of times, women don’t allow for self-pampering. It’s like you want to take care of everybody else, and you kind of overlook yourself.”

Handwritten card is a great Mother’s Day gift

Ursula said she always appreciated something more genuine.

“We know when someone has put some thought into it,” she said. “And to what you said about not having to be really expensive, up until my kids were adults. My favorite thing was their handwritten cards, and I have every single one of them, and year after year, I pull them out on days when I feel kind of like I need a pick-me-up, and I’ll read some of them. And I just don’t dare get rid of them, because you see how they’ve changed over the years, but some of the same themes come up, and you cannot go wrong with that.”
