Sixth measles case strikes WA this year

An individual from King County traveled through Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac) and Overlake Medical Center with measles, making it the sixth measles case in Washington this year.

This case is not connected to any of the five previous local measles cases, according to Public Health – Seattle & King County.

Public Health shared that the adult in this case was likely exposed to measles during recent international travel. Their vaccination status is unknown.

Locations of potential exposure to the public

On Saturday, May 17, between approximately 4:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., the person with measles was at Sea-Tac. Specifically, the person in question was at S Concourse international arrival (Gate S8), the International Arrivals Facility through customs, and baggage claim (Carousel 21). The person then exited Sea-Tac through Gina Marie Hall (the south end of the main terminal).

The following day, between 6 and 8 p.m., the individual was at Overlake Medical Center, located at 1035 116th Ave NE in Bellevue. Specifically, the person with measles was at the emergency department entrance and waiting area.

For those who were in those locations in those time frames, Public Health stated the most likely time someone would become sick would be between May 24 and June 8.
