A man who was stuck in the woods for several days has been located after a search and rescue team examined the area where a call for help was heard.

A Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) Deputy arrived on the scene around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday and heard a faint, distressed voice coming from the woods.

Man located in the Suquamish woods

A man in the 17700 block of Suquamish Way N.E. called 911 after a voice calling for help was heard coming from the woods nearby.

A KCSO Deputy arrived and could hear the man in distress calling out that he had fallen from a tree.

The Suquamish Police Department noted that the man was provided a ride to the end of a road, became disoriented, and wandered into the woods.

KCSO search and rescue teams were mobilized, which included Washington Explorer Search and Rescue, Kitsap Search Dogs, Olympic Mountain Rescue, and the Suquamish Tribal Police Department.

The collection of teams established a command post inside the Suquamish Police Department headquarters and began their search operations around 7 a.m. Saturday morning.

After the man had been rescued, he told the search and rescue team that he had been lost for four to five days after he tried to take a shortcut through the woods.

The man was transported by North Kitsap Fire and Rescue to St. Michael’s Medical Center for evaluation and treatment for any injuries.

The Suquamish Police Department mentioned that it will not release the name of the recovered man.
