With hot weather, there’s an increased risk of wildfires.

There are eleven active fires burning in Washington right now. Four of them are considered “large.”

The Hope Fire

The Hope Fire in Stevens County has burned more than 7,000 acres.

As of Tuesday morning, the fire has burned 7,236 acres and is 15% contained. Level 1, 2, and 3 evacuations remain in place.

The Northwest Incident Management Team 8 will host a community meeting at Lyn Kaste Gould Memorial Park in Northport on Tuesday, July 15, at 6 p.m.

The Western Pines Fire

Fifty miles south of the Hope Fire is the Western Pines Fire, currently at 5,800 acres in size. The fire, located near Davenport, has destroyed or damaged more than two dozen structures.

KIRO 7 reported that the fire actually shrank in size over the weekend, by approximately 55 acres, but still remains mostly uncontained.

Level 1 – be ready – and Level 3 – go now – orders are in effect.

The Pomas Fire

The Pomas Fire burning in the Glacier Peak Wilderness, 30 miles northwest of Entiat, continues to grow. Officials managing the fire believe it will likely burn throughout the summer months.

The fire has burned approximately 3,400 acres since it started on June 13. The fire is at 0% containment, as of this reporting.

The fire is difficult to contain, according to the Type 3 Southeast Washington Incident Management Team, due to where the fire is located and what’s in its way — dead and dying trees and a number of steep and rocky cliffs with trees growing out of their edges. Simply put, the fire is in a difficult spot for firefighters to get to and control.

Apple Acres Fire

A brush fire broke out between the city of Chelan and Alta Lake in Okanogan County, and quickly grew to approximately 3,400 acres before it became mostly contained.

The fire, dubbed the Apple Acres Fire, started at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Chelan County Emergency Management. The fire is now 95% contained, according to the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC).

Greenacres Fire

In Okanogan County, a fire larger than 1,000 acres in size is currently burning. At 11 a.m. Tuesday, Level 1 evacuation notices have been issued for surrounding areas, down from the Level 2 and Level 3 notices issued previously.

The fire, burning along the 200 block of Greenacres Road in Omak, is still burning in isolated spots, but all roads have reopened.

“There is heavy fire personnel and equipment traffic in the area, along with the Okanogan County Public Utility District replacing power poles along the roadways,” the Okanogan County Emergency Management stated.

Bear Gulch Fire

On the north side of Lake Cushman, near Mount Rose in Olympic National Forest, a fire has grown to approximately 445 acres.

NF Road 2400 is closed, including access to day use, trailheads, and other sites beyond the closure point, at mile marker 10.5. The fire is 18% contained, as of this reporting.

Toonerville Fire

A fire 85 acres in size sprouted up near the end of N.E. Toonerville Drive, northwest of Belfair.

“Based on current conditions and recommendations from fire command, the Mason County Sheriff’s Office is rescinding all remaining evacuation level notices, effective immediately,” the Mason County Sheriff’s Office stated.

The fire is 50% contained.

Deer Fire

In Stevens County, along E. Deer Lake Road, a fire, dubbed the Deer Fire, has decreased to 13.7 acres, according to WildCAD.

Long Hollow Fire

In Whitman County, a new fire was reported by the National Interagency Fire Center just before 3 p.m. Monday. It’s currently at 10 acres in size, and no containment information has been provided at this time.

Levey Fire

A three-acre fire is burning along the 1700 block of Levey Road in Pasco.

“Forward progress of the fire has been stopped per incident command,” WatchDuty shared.

Vegetation Fire

A vegetation fire started Near BIA Road 272 in Mabton. The fire is burning east of the Yakima Indian Reservation and south of Toppenish and Granger. The size of the fire or its containment has not been reported.

Air resources are now overhead, according to Flight Radar, and additional ground resources have been requested, as indicated by radio traffic.
