Everett house fire kills 1, injures another amid series of explosions

South County Fire (SCF) firefighters reportedly heard a series of small explosions while battling a fatal house fire in Everett on Sunday, according to KIRO 7.

The fire was reported at approximately 7 p.m. on 8th Avenue W. in Everett. The explosions heard by fire crews were believed to be from ammunition.

SCF found one man in his 40s dead on the first floor of the home, and saved another man in his 80s from a second-floor bedroom. The man in his 80s was transported to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Firefighters struggled in their search through the home due to a large amount of furniture inside.

Cause of Everett fire under investigation

The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause of the fire.

The damages are estimated to be approximately $375,000.

American Red Cross and Support 7 volunteers responded to the scene and helped residents who were displaced by the fire.
