Dozens of western WA roads shut down as atmospheric river flooding worsens

The Pacific Northwest is getting hammered by a relentless atmospheric river, bringing torrential downpours and high winds. These conditions are ripe for historic flooding, mudslides, and downed trees across the region, including on surface streets and major highways.
Below is a list of current road closures in western Washington.

Road closures are subject to change.
“Several roads are closed around the state due to heavy rain and water over the roadway,” the Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) said. “See our real-time travel map for updates.”
SR 162 was previously closed in both directions, from milepost 17.5, near Rainier Ave S.E., to milepost 10, near Harman Way, but reopened Friday evening.
US 2
Nearly 50 miles of US 2 are closed due to rocks, trees, and mud scattered over the roadway. The closure stretches from milepost 50 in Skykomish to milepost 99 in Leavenworth.
“There is no detour available and no estimated time for reopening,” WSDOT stated. “Motorists are advised to use an alternate route.”
US 2 is also closed east of Stevens Pass from Coles Corner, milepost 85, through Tumwater Canyon to Leavenworth, milepost 99, due to high water levels.
US 12
Since Tuesday, until further notice, US 12 has been closed in both directions near Chilcoat Avenue, milepost 115, due to water over the roadway. Traffic is being detoured onto Chilcoat Avenue around the closure.
“Use caution, expect delays, and never drive through standing water,” WSDOT said.
Milepost 190 on US 12 is also closed due to flooding at Naches. A detour is available using local roads.
State Route 9
Both the SR 9 northbound and southbound off-ramp/on-ramps to 2nd Street, near milepost 9, in Snohomish are closed. WSDOT cited the recent flooding as the reason for the closure.
The state route is also closed in both directions between milepost 7, Lowell-Larimer, and milepost 11, Bickford Avenue.
Additionally, both directions on the highway, from Francis Road, milepost 53, to S. Skagit Highway, milepost 54, are closed.
State Route 9 is also dealing with previous closures.
“Until further notice: SR 9 is closed from SR 20 to West State Street, milepost 55, while repairs are made to a rail crossing signal box owned by BNSF Railway that was damaged on Nov. 1.”
State Route 20
All lanes in both eastbound and westbound directions are closed from Peter Anderson Road, milepost 62, to Collins Road, milepost 63. Both directions are closed 12 miles west of Winthrop due to water and debris over the roadway. A detour via local roads is available.
“There is no estimated time for reopening,” WSDOT said.
Eastbound lanes are also closed from Newhalem, milepost 121, to Ross Dam Trailhead, milepost 134.
The SR 20 North Cascades Highway is closed between milepost 134 and 178.
State Route 22
Both directions from the junction of I-82, milepost 1, and Fraley Road, milepost 2, between Buena and Toppenish, are closed due to water over the roadway until further notice.
A detour is available via local routes.
State Route 131
SR 131 is closed in both directions between milepost 0.10, Woods Creek Road, to milepost 2, near Scalehouse.
State Route 165
The SR 165 Carbon River/Fairfax Bridge has been shut down to all vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians until further notice.
“The closure means there is no access across the bridge,” WSDOT said.
State Route 203
On SR 203, all lanes northbound and southbound are closed from N.E. Cherry Valley Road, milepost 15, to Cherry Valley Road, milepost 18. The northbound lanes are also closed from milepost 0 to milepost 5, at N.E. Tolt Hill Road.
State Route 207
Due to water on the thoroughfare, SR 207 is currently closed between milepost 3.75 to milepost 4.25, from the intersection with Beaver Valley Road to the Wenatchee River Bridge at the junction with Chiwawa Loop Road.
A detour is in place using local roads.
State Route 410
The Chinook Pass on SR 410 is closed for the season due to adverse conditions and avalanche risk. Eastbound lanes are closed at Crystal Mountain Boulevard, milepost 57, 12 miles west of the summit. Westbound lanes are closed at Morse Creek, milepost 74, five miles east of the summit.
Additionally, all lanes are closed in both directions, eastbound and westbound, on SR 410 from 284th Ave. S.E., milepost 26, to 583rd Ave E., milepost 43.
State Route 530
On SR 530, both eastbound and westbound directions are closed from Suiattle River Road, milepost 57, to Concrete Sauk Valley Road, milepost 61.
State Route 536
Both eastbound and westbound directions on SR 536 at the Skagit River Bridge, milepost 5, are closed.
State Route 906
“A section of SR 906, south of Snoqualmie Pass, is closed due to water over the roadway,” WSDOT stated.
The closure is approximately one mile long, from the Fire Station at Yellowstone Trail Road to Hyak Drive E.
