A flooded section of highway has forced the Washington State Department of Transportation to close part of State Route 167 in south King County.

The stretch of highway that is closed is from S. 212th Street to 15th Street N.E. in Kent and Auburn.

The six-mile section reaches from milepost 16 to milepost 22.

Several exit and entrance ramps are also shut down, due to the water on the roadway.

Officials say they are working with local jurisdictions on plans to reopen it.

As of 1:00 p.m. Sunday, there is no estimated time for reopening the flooded highway to traffic.

According to Wash DOT, the following ramps to SR 167 are currently closed:

Southbound SR 167 on-ramp from South 212th Street
Southbound SR 167 on-ramp from 84th Avenue South/Central Avenue North
Southbound SR 167 on-ramp from SR 516
Northbound SR 167 on-ramp from SR 18
Northbound SR 167 on-ramp from 15th Street Northwest
Northbound SR 167 on-ramp from South 277th Street.

The closure comes after the city of Auburn issued a Level 3 “Go Now” evacuation order for resident in north Auburn, due to flooding of the Green River.

Late Saturday night, the city notified residents and businesses south of S. 277th, east of SR 167, west of the Green River, and north of 42nd to leave.

That area includes the Trail Run community, the Copper Gate Apartments and surrounding neighborhoods.

As the river seeped into those neighborhoods, it made some roads impassable, including Auburn Way North, State Route 167, B St. N.W. and I St. N.E.

The city has set up shelters at Auburn Community and Event Center on 9th S.E. and Ray of Hope Day Resource Center on Auburn Way S.
