‘Music that channels the energy of who this team is’: Seattle native reveals inspiration behind viral Seahawks song

Since the end of the Legion of Boom (LOB) era in Seattle, Seahawks fans have been scrambling to be the first to dub the next generation of Seahawks with a catchy nickname. Sometimes you have to let the players speak for themselves as the team identified themselves as the “MOB” for Mission Over Bulls***, while also labeling the team’s lock-down defense as “The Dark Side.”

Drawing from the team’s new identity, Seattle native Draze, formally known as Dumi Maraire Jr., wrote a hit song to highlight each starter on the Seahawks roster and detailed how he was inspired to create something Head Coach Mike Macdonald would be proud of.

“First off, I typically don’t like to do anthems. It is not something I’m into, but I love these hawks,” Draze said on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio. “When they won that game against the 49ers, that’s when I was like, I got to do something.”

“I was frustrated with the fans, because everybody was doing these LOB remakes. That’s corny, fam,” he continued. “They already said who they are. We’re the dark side, it’s MOB, like they’re telling you who they are. I thought, maybe we could create some art and music that channels the energy of who this team is. I love everything that we’re building here in Seattle.”

KIRO host Gee Scott noted that although he is not a fan of anthems or rap music in general, he told Draze that “the hook on this is incredible,” and asked how it came about.

“That’s my daughter, she’s an amazing artist, and I was like, ‘Yo, I need you to come do something for me,'” Draze said. “Then the ‘Welcome to the dark side’ is my sister, Francci, she’s another artist from Seattle. I literally said to her, ‘I need you to sound like you’re in the Hunger Games.'”

Draze noted that “The Dark Side” notched more than half a million streams on the first day the song was released, all while taking social media platforms like X by storm and amassing nearly 100,000 views on his original post.

“I love this team, I live with this team. I watch all your content and the interviews all season long. I’m a junkie, just a fanatic fan,” Draze said. “All of the sayings were in me. 12 as one, defend every blade of grass. I wanted it to be something that Mike Macdonald could be proud of. When the team hears it, it feels like an extension of what the coach is already telling them. But, it also had to be a banger.”

KIRO host Ursula Reutin asked how Draze is feeling about the Seahawks’ chances of playing in the Super Bowl this year, to which he replied that “these boys are for real.”

“We’re a team of destiny. I’m not worried because of how locked in we are. When the last game was over, we were in the locker room, and we weren’t celebrating,” Draze said. “We’re locked in, just like Kobe Bryant saying ‘Job’s not finished.’ Everything about this mentality is actually real. Some players fake it, but these boys are for real.”
