‘2 worlds could collide’: Ursula cautious about ICE agents at Super Bowl

After reports that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will be visibly present at the Super Bowl, officials have stated this is simply standard procedure for a large event, and insisted that anyone who is here legally and not breaking the law has nothing to fear.
Gee Scott and Ursula Reutin, co-hosts of “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio, questioned whether it’s necessary to have ICE agents at the Super Bowl and discussed how it may cast a “dark shadow” on one of the country’s most anticipated events.
“Do they need to be there?” Gee asked. “Does ICE need to be at the Super Bowl?”
“If this were any other time, I would believe that when you have a big event like that, you want as many people who are doing the right thing to keep you safe,” Ursula responded. “This is kind of a supercharged time right now, and there’s not a lot of trust in what’s going on with these ICE operations.”
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) told TMZ that it plans to be on the ground around the Super Bowl despite unrest in Minneapolis, but there are no plans for ICE to carry out operations at Levi’s Stadium or at any NFL-sponsored eventsleading up to the big game.
“I want to be really excited about the Seahawks heading to the Super Bowl, and I am. But at the same time, all these things that are happening with ICE and immigration enforcement feel like this dark shadow hanging over everything,” Ursula continued. “Given what we’ve seen, I feel like the two worlds could potentially collide in the Super Bowl. The focus should be, we’re all in this together, and we want everyone to be safe.”
Gee noted that calls for togetherness are often rejected by those who profit from division, and pushed for common sense and human decency as a priority in ICE operations.
“When you make comments like that, Ursula, like we’re all in this together. The reason why so many don’t want that approach is that they make less money when they do that,” Gee said. “People with platforms that continue to push and preach hate; they make their living off of these things. Why can’t we start with common sense? If there’s someone undocumented that did something wrong, and they get sent out of this country, OK, yes, good.”
