A driver pulled a gun on a bystander after he was thrown from his car and knocked unconscious in a crash on I-5 near Milton early Sunday morning.

According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the crash happened at approximately 3:15 a.m. Sunday on southbound I-5 near the county line between King and Pierce County. He was allegedly ejected from his car during the crash and lost consciousness.

When a bystander stopped to check on the crash, the injured driver regained consciousness and allegedly pulled a gun on the bystander, according to WSP Trooper Kameron Watts.

“That ejected male regained consciousness and pulled a firearm on a bystander that tried to check on him then fled the area,” Watts said.

According to Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) camera footage, law enforcement approached the crash with their rifles pointed at the car. They quickly determined the driver was not inside at the time, later finding the driver on foot with injuries consistent with the crash.

WSP stated he will be medically evaluated before being booked into custody.
