An Everett family was attacked early Monday morning at their home after a young man allegedly attempted a home invasion.

A mother and daughter are in critical condition — their lives likely saved by one of their daughters.

At approximately 9:03 a.m., Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) deputies responded to reports of a burglary in the 1200 block of 112th Street S.W., SCSO announced. A known 20-year-old man arrived at the residence, knocked on the door, and forced his way in after receiving no response.

Once he was inside, he allegedly began stabbing multiple victims, a 45-year-old woman and her 18-year-old daughter. But a 22-year-old daughter fought the suspect off and put him in a chokehold until deputies arrived.

“Absolutely courageous of the 22-year-old – her actions potentially save the lives of her family members and herself,” SCSO spokesperson Courtney O’Keefe said.

Two of the three stabbing victims were transported to Providence Medical Center and are currently in critical condition.

Investigators confirmed that the family knew the suspect. According to KIRO 7, he was allegedly dealing with mental health issues.

“He just kind of went off the deep end – he started saying he was hearing things,” a friend of the suspect, Gabriel Hardwick, who is currently dating the 18-year-old daughter, told KIRO 7. “Honestly, I think he was coming here for me.”

The suspect is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday afternoon.

SCSO noted the investigation remains active.
