A male suspect was arrested early Tuesday morning after he allegedly robbed a Shelton restaurant and barricaded himself inside his home with thousands of dollars in stolen cash.

At approximately 1 a.m., the suspect burglarized the Taylor Station Restaurant and stole roughly $6,000 in cash, which was a combination of tops and sales from the holiday weekend, the Mason County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) announced.

The suspect was an employee at the time of the robbery, but has since been terminated. Deputies tracked the suspect to his residence, where he hid inside a detached garage and refused to comply with deputies’ commands.

Deputies later learned that the suspect used that time to hide the cash he had stolen throughout the garage. The suspect ultimately surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody.

Deputies served a search warrant to locate the stolen property, firearms, body armor, taser cartridges, ammo, and robbery kits that were located inside the garage where the suspect had barricaded himself.

MCSO noted that its deputies successfully located and recovered approximately $5,500 of the stolen cash.

The suspect was booked into the Mason County Jail for first-degree theft, second-degree burglary, and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm for each firearm that was located.

“Thank you to the sheriff’s enforcement team and patrol deputies for their diligent work to keep this county a safe place to work, live, and play,” MSCO stated.
