‘I didn’t get caught’: Gee says he can’t be a hypocrite on WA ruling that two DUIs can get gun rights taken away

Jun 16, 2026, 6:50 PM

The Washington Supreme Court voted 5-4 to uphold a law allowing gun rights to be suspended after a second DUI within seven years, according to Axios Seattle. Two Spokane-area men challenged the law after they were denied concealed pistol licenses because of their DUI records. The court ruled the state can temporarily disarm repeat DUI offenders even if they haven’t committed a violent crime.

Gee torn on WA Supreme Court ruling on gun rights

“I’m seriously torn on this,” KIRO host Gee Scott said on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio. “On one hand, yes, somebody who continues to get DUIs is a reckless person. But can I be honest for a second? I mean, like really transparent and honest with you. I don’t want to be a hypocrite. I don’t want to say things that I did when I was younger, when I didn’t understand some things, and somebody can understand, like before Ubers, before Lyfts, I myself made some bad judgments.”

“Did I think that I was a dangerous person? No. The only difference between me then and some folks sitting on two in seven years is that I didn’t get caught,” he continued. “I’m gonna talk about these topics in a real way. I’m not one of these folks who dances on topics. No, I’m not perfect. I have messed up in my life. And so sometimes the only difference between me and someone else is that I didn’t get caught, fortunately. And I’m glad that I learned my lesson not to do those things.”

KIRO producer Andrew Lanier said the law feels like it’s designed to strip gun rights from as many people as possible.

“I don’t like it because it feels targeted to me,” he said. “It feels like a law that is being passed to try and remove guns from as many people as possible.”

Under the law, people who lose their gun rights can petition to have them restored after five years, according to Axios Seattle.
