The Proctor Farmers Market is bringing the community together for its first annual farm-to-table fundraising dinner, The Commons: Held by Many, on July 26 at De La Mesa Farms.

The event, a five-course dinner prepared by chefs Jan Parker (Jan Parker Cookery) and Abby Woods (Trini Plate), will feature an array of Northwest ingredients inspired by both Caribbean and Filipino culinary traditions.

More than a celebration of local food, the dinner will raise funds for the market’s SNAP Market Match program, which stretches benefits for eligible shoppers. It will also benefit its Equity & Inclusion Mentorship Program, which helps aspiring farmers, food producers, and small businesses build a presence in local markets.

The Commons is rooted in the idea that a strong local food system is a shared investment, from farmers and chefs to volunteers and community members. Organizers say the event is meant to honor the people behind local food while creating more opportunities for the next generation of growers and food entrepreneurs.

“No one becomes a farmer by accident”, said Millie Robinson, director of marketing and communications for the Proctor Farmers Market in a release. “Behind every vendor is someone who has chosen long days, uncertain seasons, and incredibly hard work because they believe feeding their community matters. This evening is about recognizing those people while ensuring more individuals have the opportunity to do the same.”

The evening, which organizers hope will become an annual tradition, will include live local music; two complimentary drink tickets featuring regional wine, cider, and mead; vegetarian options; and a Dessert Dash with treats donated by area businesses.

Organizers hope the inaugural dinner becomes an annual tradition.
