‘Jimothy’s ranking No. 1’: Gee and Ursula brainstorm new WA state flag designs after survey suggests Amazon van, rain jacket

Is it finally time for Washington to revise its state flag after more than 100 years?
In light of Utah and Minnesota recently changing their flags, a casino company surveyed what should replace Washington’s flag, which currently features the official state seal with George Washington in front of an all-green background
The first on the list was an Amazon delivery van, followed by a rain jacket in July, and lastly, a tech hoodie.
Hosts, listeners offered their own tongue-in-cheek flag designs
Gee Scott and Ursula Reutin, co-hosts of “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio, opened up the question to the text line to rank some of the listeners’ best submissions, and later brainstormed what their favorite designs would be.
“Right off the top of my head, I thought it was funny: a traffic cone,” Gee said. “You know what I’m saying, or some type of tax logo. Maybe like a house, because housing affordability is so awesome here in Washington.
“I know what some others are going to say,” Ursula responded. “They would say they’re going to put a tent on the flag.”
A texter from Buckley looked to ride a current trend that has taken the nation by storm, including a furry critter mucking about in Ballard.
“I think we’re going to see a lot of this,” Ursula said. “Jimothy and a salmon sitting at a picnic table, eating apples with Mount Rainier in the background as an eagle swoops down, talons at the ready to carry Jimothy and the salmon to their doom at a nest high in the forest. OK, I was with you until the very end.”
Another texter got Gee’s attention with a much simpler design.
“206 said a $1 sign. Ooh, right now, that’s ranked No. 1 for me,” Gee said.
“Right now, Jimothy’s ranking No. 1 with our texters,” Ursula responded.
One final pitch sparked a passionate case for an iconic piece of Seattle’s skyline
Gee had one last idea centered around one of Seattle’s largest companies, but the pitch got KIRO producer Andrew Lanier’s creative juices flowing.
“How about a coffee cup?” Gee asked.
“I mean that’s pretty good, cause Starbucks,” Andrew responded. “There’s only one answer though, right? It’s the mountains. Mount Rainier. If it’s going to be a state flag, it should be Mount Tahoma or Mount Tacoma. We can’t even get the name right on our largest mountain here in the state. Some French dude that’s never been here. I mean, there’s no other state in the lower 48 that has mountains like Washington.
“You’ve got Mount Hood in Oregon, there’s Shasta in California, the Tetons in Wyoming and Colorado and stuff, but nothing like here,” he continued. “Not as many peaks. You get on a plane, and you’re like, ‘Wait, what’s that mountain, and that mountain, and that mountain?’ [The flag] has to be the mountains.”
