Drivers beware: Road closures hit I-405 in Bellevue this week

Drivers heading through Bellevue this week will want to plan ahead.

There will be overnight closures on I-405 north and south, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). Crews will install signs as part of the widening and toll lane project on I-405.

“The Renton to Bellevue project will add new capacity to create a two-lane express toll lane system between SR 167 in Renton and Northeast Sixth Street in Bellevue,” WSDOT stated. “In general, the project will add one new lane in each direction and combine the existing HOV lane with the new lane to create a dual express toll lane system.”

I-405 south closing from Monday to Tuesday in Bellevue

I-405 south will be closed overnight from Monday night to Tuesday morning. The closure will span Southeast Eighth Street to Coal Creek Parkway Southeast. The highway will be closed from 11:30 p.m. Aug. 10 to 4:30 a.m. Aug. 11.

Several ramps will be closed, including:

• Southbound I-405 off-ramps to eastbound/westbound I-90 (Exit 11).
• Southeast Eighth Street on-ramp to southbound I-405.
• Northeast Sixth Street HOV on-ramp to southbound I-405.
• Northeast Eighth Street/Northeast Fourth Street on-ramp to southbound I-405.

I-405 north will close from Wednesday to Thursday

I-405 north will be closed overnight from Wednesday to Thursday. The closure will start at Coal Creek Parkway Southeast and end at I-90. The road will be closed from 11:30 p.m. Aug. 12 to 4:30 a.m. Aug. 13.

The following ramps will be closed:

• Coal Creek Parkway Southeast on-ramp to northbound I-405
• Northbound I-405 off-ramp to I-90 (Exit 11)
• 112th Avenue Southeast on-ramp to northbound I-405

For both closures, signed detour routes will be in place.

I-405 south, HOV I-5 off-ramp to close Friday to Monday

WSDOT added that one lane of I-405 south and the HOV off-ramp to I-5 north in Tukwila will close Friday to Monday.

The agency advised drivers to plan for congestion and delays throughout Seattle over the weekend due to closures on I-5, I-405, and SR 99.

“People should be flexible about travel times and access real-time traffic information before traveling,” WSDOT stated.
