Commerce Awards $1M to Fuel Business, Manufacturing Expansion

To accelerate manufacturing expansion and create workforce development and economic opportunities across the state, the Washington State Department of Commerce awarded $1 million in funding to seven businesses and organizations.

The grants include $150,000 awards to four businesses and $130,000 awards to three industry cluster organizations. The funding comes from the Evergreen Manufacturing Growth Grants program, which supports projects that create manufacturing and research and development jobs by investing in business expansion, technology advancement, workforce development, and industry collaboration, according to a Commerce press release.

The business expansion projects include:

Atlas Technologies (Jefferson County)Custom Source Woodworking (Lewis County)Agpro Marketing & Manufacturing (Whitman County)Thompson Metal Fab and Panthalassa (Clark County)

The industry clusters include:

VERTical Innovation Cluster (Tri-Cities)Natural Resources Innovations Center (Olympic Peninsula)Space Northwest (Greater Seattle)

“These grants help Washington businesses expand, create living-wage jobs, and strengthen local economies,” said Andrea Chartock, assistant director of Commerce’s Office of Economic Development and Competitiveness, in a press release. “This round includes projects in communities that don’t always have access to the same investment opportunities as larger markets.”
