The South Asian cinema-centered Tasveer Film Festival is returning to Seattle Oct. 13-18 for its 21st year, the organization announced this week.

The event stands as the first and only South Asian film festival where screened works qualify for Oscar recognition. Films screened at Tasveer span across South Asia and include stories from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tibet, and the overall South Asian diaspora, according to the release.

During the festival — whose lineup will be announced soon — there will additionally be post-screening conversations, workshops, and panels. Also being hosted is the Tasveer Film Market, which helps filmmakers source funding and distribution. The market works to challenge the traditional funding and distribution model and works with companies like Netflix on pitches, provides industry panels, networking sessions, and other ways to support filmmakers.
