The city of Kirkland has purchased a former Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints property in the Kingsgate neighborhood for $10 million, with plans to transform the site into a community center.
The 3.28-acre property includes a 15,635-square-foot building with space to accommodate a 8,000-square-foot gymnasium alongside classrooms, a kitchen, and other multipurpose spaces.
According to a recent statement from the city manager’s office, the city plans to use the existing building for expanded recreation and enrichment programs, including art, music, preschool, and sports activities.
There are also considerations of expanding the space with a second building, which could house a separate gymnasium or indoor pool.
