Amazon drops WA delivery partner, 120 employees laid off with one day’s notice

A package delivery service in Washington laid off 120 employees on Monday and closed its business after its only client, Amazon, dropped the service.

2EZY will cease operations at its DSK4 and HGE2 facilities located at 12315 W McFarlane Road in Airway Heights, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filing.

The closure is expected to be permanent, with all 120 employees being separated from the company on Sept. 30.

In line with WARN requirements, employers must provide a layoff or closure notice 60 days ahead of the layoff start date to WARN, all affected employees, and to the chief elected official of the community where the layoff or closure will occur.

2EZY is an independent business contracted by Amazon to deliver its packages to customers as an Amazon Delivery Service Partner. In 2EZY’s case, the company explained how an unanticipated notice from Amazon led to its late filing.

“We only learned of this action from our only client, Amazon, in the last business day,” 2EZY wrote. “This was unforeseeable — it was simply not possible for us to provide more advance notice of this action.”

The specific number of affected employees per job title includes 109 drivers, five dispatch workers, four helpers, one administrative assistant, and one manager.
