Plan ahead: WSDOT has a number of late night closures around the region this week

The final week of Summer is a busy one for the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), as it races to complete as many projects as it can before the fall rains arrive.

The steady rain puts the brakes on paving, concrete work, and painting projects that make up a large portion of WSDOT’s improvement plans.

Projects that are put on hold during the rainy season will typically start up again in spring.

Overnight I-5 lane closures between Everett and Marysville

WSDOT crews plan to close several lanes overnight to perform crack sealing and pavement repairs in both directions of I-5 between Everett and Marysville.

Lane reductions will begin at 10 p.m., and all lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. the next day.

On Tuesday, four left lanes of northbound I-5 will close from SR 526 to Broadway (milepost 192). On Wednesday, two left lanes of southbound I-5 will close from 148th St. SW to Maple Road (milepost 184). On Thursday, two left lanes of southbound I-5 will close over the Ebey Slough bridge (milepost 198).

This work needs dry weather and may be rescheduled with rain in the forecast Thursday night into Friday morning.

Overnight I-90 lane and ramp closures in Bellevue

WSDOT plans on four nights of overnight lane and ramp closures on eastbound and westbound I-90 near the I-405 interchange in Bellevue for guardrail and sign installations.

Unless noted, the following closures are from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day.

On Monday and Tuesday, two lanes of westbound I-90 will close between 150th Ave. SE and I-405. The 148th Ave. SE on-ramp to westbound I-90 will also close. Starting at 10 p.m., the westbound I-90 off-ramps to northbound and southbound I-405 will close.

On Wednesday and Thursday, two lanes of eastbound and westbound I-90 will close between 150th Ave. SE and I-405. The 142nd Pl. SE on-ramp to westbound I-90 will also close. Starting at 10 p.m., the northbound and southbound I-405 ramps to eastbound I-90 will close.

Construction will also happen overnight on SE 36th St., which will be fully closed Monday and Tuesday nights for paving across the new Sunset Creek bridge. Closures will be in place from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. between 136th Pl. SE and 132nd Ave. SE.

Monday and Tuesday nights, both directions of SE 36th St. will close. Signed detours will guide people around the closure. Wednesday and Thursday nights, SE 36th St. will reduce to one lane, and flaggers will alternate traffic through the work zone.

SE Eastgate Way closure details

Intermittent 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. single-lane closures with alternating traffic between Richards Road and 139th Ave. SE will continue through October for stream bed construction.

These closures support ongoing work on a fish passage project beneath SE 36th St., both directions of I-90 and SE Eastgate Way in Bellevue. Construction began in early 2023 and is scheduled to finish by October 2027.

Signed detours will guide people around road and ramp closures each night. People traveling through the area should expect delays.

Overnight closure from eastbound SR 520 to Montlake Boulevard

WSDOT will close the Montlake Boulevard off-ramp overnight this week to allow crews to haul materials needed for the future traffic shift scheduled for 2027.

From Monday to Friday morning, the ramp will close nightly from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Drivers will not be able to access Montlake Boulevard from eastbound SR 520 during those hours.

If you get on to SR 520 from I-5, there isn’t an exit before you cross the lake, and drivers will have to pay the toll.

Lane closures on I-5 in Kent

WSDOT crews will be performing drainage work in Kent this week ahead of the seasonal heavy rain.

From Monday to the morning of Friday, up to two lanes of southbound I-5 will close nightly from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. between SR 516 (Exit 149) and S 272nd St. (Exit 147).

This work is part of the SR 509 Completion Project.

Overnight lane, ramp closures on SR 167 in Kent

Drivers on the Valley Freeway will see overnight lane and ramp closures along both directions of SR 167 (SR 167) in Kent starting Monday night, to seal pavement cracks.

The following closures start as early as 7 p.m. and last until 5 a.m. the next day.

On Monday night, two lanes of northbound SR 167 will close between SR 516 and S 212th St. On Tuesday night, two lanes of southbound SR 167 will close between 84th Ave. S and S 277th St.

On Wednesday night, two lanes of northbound SR 167 will close between SR 516 and S 212th St. The northbound SR 167 off-ramp to SR 516, the SR 516 on-ramp to northbound SR 167, the northbound SR 167 off-ramp to 84th Ave. S, and the 84th Ave. S on-ramps to northbound and southbound SR 167 will also close.

On Thursday night, two lanes of southbound SR 167 will close between 84th Ave. S and S 277th St. The southbound SR 167 off-ramp to 84th Ave. S, the southbound SR 167 off-ramp to SR 516, the SR 516 on-ramp to southbound SR 167, and the southbound SR 167 off-ramp to S 277th St. will also close.

At least one lane of SR 167 will remain open, but delays are possible through the work zones each night. Signed detours will guide people around ramp closures.

This week’s work is part of a regional project making pavement repairs at more than 70 locations in King, Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom counties, extending the life of the roadway and improving the driving surface.

Overnight I-5 northbound lane closures at King-Pierce county line

Crews need to repair road sensors along a stretch of northbound I-5 near Porter Way in Fife.

Two right lanes of northbound Interstate 5 will close north of the King-Pierce county line (milepost 140) nightly from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following day beginning Tuesday to Thursday morning.

Full closure overnight eastbound SR 18 at Issaquah-Hobart Road SE

Surveying crews will be covering a 6-mile stretch along SR 18 between Issaquah-Hobart Road SE (milepost 20) and Deep Creek (milepost 26).

All lanes of eastbound SR 18 will close along this 6-mile stretch nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for six nights between Monday and Sept. 29. Closures are not scheduled from Friday to Sunday.

Travelers should expect delays, allow extra travel time, and seek alternate routes during the nightly closures. Issaquah-Hobart Road and Issaquah city streets are not suitable for freight traffic and semi-trucks and should not be used as a detour for trucks. WSDOT suggests that freight traffic should use westbound SR 169 to northbound I-405 and then use northbound I-405 to eastbound I-90, or other suitable alternate state routes.

Lane reductions for southbound I-5 between DuPont and Lacey

WSDOT crews have concrete panel replacements scheduled this week on southbound I-5 between DuPont and Lacey. This work will close two lanes overnight Monday through Friday, overnight into the early morning commute.

Lane closures will be in place from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 6:30 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday.

When work is completed on southbound I-5, crews will switch to the northbound direction. If it rains, work will be rescheduled.
