A fugitive on the Washington State Patrol’s (WSP) Most Wanted list is back in custody after his arrest in Seattle in connection with a fatal U.S. Route 101 crash in Clallam County.
Micah B. Lacunza, 39, was arrested Monday. He is charged with vehicular homicide in connection with the Feb. 15 crash.
The collision happened near Palo Alto Road.
“According to the investigation, Lacunza was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado westbound toward Sequim when he crossed the centerline and struck a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser traveling eastbound,” WSP stated Wednesday in a press release. “The Toyota was occupied by husband and wife Skylor Richford and Mathilde Richford.”
Skylor Richford died at the scene.
“Lacunza and Mathilde Richford were transported by air to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett and Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, respectively,” according to the release.
Detectives believe Lacunza was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol at the time of the crash.
Lacunza evaded arrest in Tacoma before Seattle capture
A Clallam County judge issued an arrest warrant for Lacunza and set his bail at $500,000.
In the months after the crash, detectives found Lacunza living in a tent in a Tacoma backyard, but he got away before police could arrest him.
“On October 5, an alert citizen in Seattle recognized Lacunza from a WSP Most Wanted poster and immediately contacted 911,” WSP said. “Seattle Police Department officers responded and took Lacunza into custody without incident a short time later.”
Lacunza will be extradited to Clallam County. He faces the vehicular homicide charge and several other unrelated charges.
