The man accused of killing a clerk at a gas station in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood was arrested in Chicago Tuesday.
Michael Fleming was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service without incident, according to the Seattle Police Department (SPD).
Fleming was identified in the killing of a clerk at a 76 gas station, SPD announced earlier on Tuesday.
King County prosecutors charged the 33-year-old with first-degree murder on Oct. 20, according to court documents obtained by MyNorthwest.
Fleming allegedly shot his former co-worker multiple times at close range for no apparent reason, court documents stated. At this time, robbery has been ruled out as the motive for the murder.
Fleming then fled to Chicago.
Brother reported erratic behavior by Belltown homicide suspect
Fleming’s brother informed authorities that Fleming was recently acting erratically and delusionally, according to court documents.
Fleming has no known criminal convictions. However, detectives are also investigating the recent murders of Fleming’s mother and stepfather, court documents noted.
The Oct. 13 incident occurred near Third Avenue and Denny Way, MyNorthwest previously reported. Fleming entered the business and made a purchase before allegedly shooting the clerk.
The shooting happened around 6 a.m., and medics pronounced the victim deceased at the scene, SPD reported. Anyone with information can contact the SPD Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000.
