The two deputies killed in a shooting in Spokane earlier this week have been identified by the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO).
Deputy Mason Acheson and Deputy Parker Perry were both fathers and served in the Washington Army National Guard, according to a news release from SCSO on Friday.
Deputy Mason Acheson served as SWAT sniper and National Guard sergeant
Acheson was commissioned to work with the sheriff’s office in 2022. Before that, he worked with the Washington State Patrol as a trooper and firearms instructor. He enlisted in the Washington Army National Guard in 2011 and served in Poland from 2021 to 2022.
He earned three Army Commendation Medals, one Army Achievement Medal, three Army Reserve Component Achievement Medals, a National Defense Service Medal, and an Armed Forces Reserve Medal with an M (mobilization) device.
“Deputy Acheson was commissioned and served with distinction within the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office and was assigned to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Downtown Dayshift platoon,” the sheriff’s office wrote. “He proudly served on the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team.”
Acheson was a SWAT sniper, where he provided overwatch for team members.
“Deputy Acheson made the ultimate sacrifice for his country, community, and fellow team members,” SCSO stated. “In the face of danger, he stepped forward to preserve life, and in this selfless act of bravery, he lost his life while trying to protect others. He dedicated himself to serving others in both the military and law enforcement, leaving a lasting impact through his selfless commitment to service.”
Acheson is survived by his wife and two children.
Deputy Parker Perry’s family honors his service through organ donation
Perry was commissioned to work with the sheriff’s office in 2020. Before that, he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Carroll College in Montana.
Perry served in the Washington Army National Guard since 2017, earning the rank of captain as a military intelligence officer assigned to the 81st Brigade’s 1-161st Infantry Battalion, where he was awarded two Army Commendation Medals and an Armed Forces Service Medal.
He then served on the sheriff’s office SWAT team from 2022 until he was selected as a K9 Deputy in 2025. He and his K9, Brego, responded to the domestic violence shooting call on Tuesday.
“He immediately responded on his own, without prompting, an example of how he lived life, always prioritizing the safety of others before his own,” the sheriff’s office wrote. “Knowing that there was another victim’s life in jeopardy, he joined his teammates and moved toward the house. During this attempted rescue, he bravely forced entry, knowing that there was danger inside to protect another.
“Deputy Perry laid down his life to rescue another during this entry and was critically injured in the process,” officials continued. “Though gravely injured, Deputy Parker Perry and his family chose to continue his selfless service to others by donating his organs to ensure others in need across this region and country will live.”
Perry is survived by his wife, two children, and a third child on the way.
