A King County Sheriff’s deputy struck a pedestrian with their patrol car early Halloween night in West Seattle.

“In this case, he’s not even going to a call,” said Sgt. Cindy West with the King County Sheriff’s Office. “He’s just driving down the road, making a left-hand turn. It does happen, that’s why they call it an accident.”

“It looks like our deputy was at a light waiting for the light to turn green,” she said. “When it changed, he made a left-hand turn. When he did so, there was a gentleman crossing in the crosswalk on his left side and he struck that person.”

The incident happened around 5:37 p.m. at Roxbury Street and 8th Avenue, according to the West Seattle Blog.

The pedestrian who was struck has been taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-serious injuries. West said, however, that he did suffer some kind of hip injury.

“It looks like the guy was in the crosswalk and the deputy had the green light, which would likely mean the light was green for the pedestrian also, but we are still looking into it,” West said, noting an investigation into the incident is open.

“The deputy is very upset and he was shocked when he hit the guy,” she said.
