Why the “S” word isn’t so bad

Mar 26, 2012, 11:16 AM | Updated: Oct 14, 2024, 9:39 am

nobsIt’s the last thing you’d
expect from a presidential candidate, especially one
running so strongly on values, morals and religion, but
when GOP hopeful Rick Santorum uttered the “S” word at a
NY Times reporter, it raised plenty of eyebrows and
questions. Is it time to scratch it from the list of bad
words?

“It has stopped being offensive long ago in my mind. I
will use the “S” word in front of my parents, who are very
religious and there are a lot of words I wouldn’t use
around them,” said Ross and Burbank co-host Luke Burbank.

Listen: Boze and Burbank debate
whether the “S” word is really all that bad.

Santorum was responding to questions about his
statement that Mitt Romney is the worst Republican to put
up against Barack Obama when it comes to the issue of
health care reform because of his support for a similar
measure as Massachusetts’ governor.

“Quit distorting my words, if I see it’s bull*$#! c’mon
man, what are you doing,” chided Santorum to the
reporters.

Burbanks suggested if it’s OK for such a devoutly
religious man, it should be OK for the rest of us.

“I think we are ready to welcome the S word into normal
conversation because you can say poop, “merde” which is
French, fecal matter,” said Burbank.

“Can we start some kind of campaign?”

But guest co-host David Boze, of AM 770 The Truth, said
while he doesn’t consider it a swear word, he’s not ready
to just use it indiscriminately.

“It’s one of those coarsening words where isn’t it
better that we kind of leave it off the palate so that
when we use it it has better effect?”

“Merde,” responded Burbank.
