The wife of a motorcyclist killed on I-90 is pleading for help to find the vans involved in her husband’s death.

Shaila Haynes reached out to KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson Wednesday, hoping someone out there knows about the accident that killed her husband Randy.

He died Sept. 10 in the accident on I-90, three miles west of Cle Elum.

“He was actually doing a great deed that day,” she says. “We were on our way home from vacation and riding with a couple of female riders that lived on the west side and was escorting them home because they were concerned about the heavy winds that were in the area that day.”

Haynes says traffic was thick as the trio of motorcycles traveled west bound in the left lane. A van came up from behind, tailgated the bikers, swerved around them, then cut Randy off.

“There was nowhere for the bikes to go because there was heavy traffic and so the van made its way into the right lane and eventually cut in front of Randy forcing him off the road and into the median.”

Witnesses say a silver mini-van and a white Euro-type van both stopped briefly but then took off. Randy died at the scene. Shaila says she’s convinced it was road rage.

Shaila tells Dori she’s devastated, losing her life partner of nearly 30 years.

“He was just a caring person, he didn’t have any enemies, everybody that he met was a friend, he was very genuine,” she says.

Shaila says Randy was honored over the weekend at a celebration of life that drew over 250 people, a testament to how people feel about her husband.

Now, she’s pleading for help in finding the vans.

“All we’re asking is that anybody else who may have witnessed anything that they remember that day if they were traveling through the area that they saw these vans that they remember anything at all to please contact the state patrol.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Washington State Patrol.
