A little hope and a hand up got a Snohomish County family of four back on their feet.

This Daily Dose of Kindness comes to us from our friends at KIRO 7.

Reporter Joanna Small met with the Hoffman family who traveled to Everett from Wyoming with another family. Unfortunately, while staying at a Motel 6 in Everett, the other family took off in the middle of the night with their money.

Angelica Hoffman says her husband resorted to panhandling to try and scrape enough money together to afford a place to stay. They didn’t want their two children to sleep outside.

As luck would have it, the Motel 6 they were staying at is next to the Mariner Park and Ride in Everett, where Lindsey Arrington and Robert Smiley were hosting a dinner for people down on their luck.

I’ve told Lindsey’s story before. Back then, she was Lindsey Greinke. Her mission has stayed the same — help people struggling with addiction find a recovery center.

Robert’s organization is called The Hand Up Project, which aims to reduce homelessness.

They heard about the Hoffman family’s struggles the day they were serving dinner and jumped in to help.

You can follow the link to KIRO 7’s website to watch as Lindsey and Robert pool their resources to provide stability for the family.

You can hear Colleen O’Brien’s “Daily Dose of Kindness” segment every morning at 7:30 a.m. on KIRO Radio 97.3 FM.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — After an eight-year wait, the historic third Michelin star that chef and co-owner Val Cantú and his team at San Francisco’s Californios craved is theirs.
