Seattle rents up nearly 10 percent from last year

While asking prices on single-family homes posted their largest year-over-year increase since the housing slump began, rent gains continued to outpace home-price gains, a monthly report from Trulia revealed.

The report showed asking rents have increased nearly 5 percent from a year ago in September. The metros posting the largest asking rents in the past year were Houston (15.9 percent), Miami (10.4 percent), Seattle (9.6 percent), and Oakland (9.2 percent).

Rent increases have cooled most in San Francisco, from 14.5 percent in June down to 7.2 percent in September.
