The Ballard Bridge has reopened after an approximate closure of 90 minutes.

KIRO 7 reached out to the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) to confirm the cause of the mechanical issue.

SDOT stated that the Ballard Bridge was closed to vehicles because of mechanical problems, with drivers being asked to use alternate routes.

The bridge, which connects Ballard to Interbay and serves as a key link between north Seattle and downtown, shut down Sunday afternoon after crews discovered the issue.

SDOT has not said what caused the malfunction, but confirmed that engineers are assessing the problem.

Transportation officials warned drivers to expect delays in the area. Alternate crossings include the Fremont Bridge, the Aurora Bridge (Highway 99), and the Magnolia Bridge.
