Battle brewing over Tacoma Narrows Bridge toll hike

Feb 17, 2016, 11:07 PM | Updated: May 6, 2016, 11:09 pm

If you drive over the Tacoma Narrows Bridge every day, I hope you are saving your pennies.

Higher toll rates for the bridge are coming your way. Currently, drivers pay $5 if they have a Good to Go! pass, $6 with cash or $7 if paying by mail.

But tolls are expected to jump up by 50 cents in July.

After the Citizen Advisory Committee voiced concerns with this hike, the state Transportation Commission began discussions on whether or not to reconsider the increase, KIRO 7 reports.

The nine-member Tacoma Narrows Bridge Citizen Advisory Committee, which is a governor-appointed group composed of permanent residents of the bridge area, is required by law to make toll-rate recommendations to the State Transportation Commission.

The Tacoma committee will submit a proposal in hopes of stopping the toll increase, but at the end of the day, the state Transportation Commission has the final say on the toll price.
