Black ice causes multiple crashes, 5-mile backup on eastbound Tacoma Narrows Bridge

All eastbound lanes of SR 16 on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge were blocked for two hours early Monday morning due to multiple crashes.
The lane closures started at 4:40 a.m. Monday, reopening a little less than two hours later. A five-mile backup is currently happening due to the closure.

According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the crashes on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge were caused by “excessive black ice” that formed overnight.
The Narrows Bridge is closed on the eastbound side of SR-16 (going toward Tacoma) due to excessive black ice that’s causing multiple collisions.@wsdot_tacoma is en route to treat the road and the bridge will open up shortly after.
