The good news is this weekend’s list of Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) projects is substantially shorter than last weekend’s lengthy list. The bad news is we have another full closure on I-405.
Drivers will need to adjust their weekend routes between the Eastside and downtown Seattle due to a full closure of northbound I-405 through Bellevue.
The full closure on I-405 will send added volume through Seattle, where northbound I-5 is down to two lanes across the Ship Canal Bridge while WSDOT continues progress on the Revive I-5 Project.
Northbound I-405 closure in Bellevue
This weekend WSDOT has quite a number of projects through Bellevue that include installing an overhead sign structure, concrete panels, and pavement work, as part of the I-405/Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes Project.
In order to complete these tasks in a safe and timely manner, WSDOT will shut down all northbound lanes of I-405 between Southeast 8th St. and NE 4th St. from 11 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday.
Signed detour routes will be in place to guide drivers around this closure, which is less than 1 mile.
The following northbound ramps will also close:
- Southeast Eighth St. on-ramp to northbound I-405.
- Northbound I-405 off-ramp to NE Fourth St./NE Eighth St. (Exit 13 A/B).
Looking ahead: I-405 ramp closures to eastbound I-90 in Bellevue begin Monday
The scheduled weekend closure on I-405 wraps up at 4 a.m. Monday. Later that evening, drivers will have another round of closures at the I-405/I-90 interchange.
The northbound and southbound I-405 ramps to eastbound I-90 in Bellevue will close for four consecutive nights starting Monday for guardrail and electrical work.
Signed detours will guide drivers around the ramp closures, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly Monday through Friday morning.
The eastbound I-90 on-ramp from Bellevue Way SE will also close from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly Wednesday and Thursday nights, Oct. 21-22.
This weekend’s work is part of a project that has repaved 2 miles of eastbound I-90 in Bellevue. Construction will pause later this fall until spring 2027, when crews will make repairs to the eastbound I-90 highway bridge over Richards Road.
I-405/NE 132nd Street interchange closure in Kirkland
City of Kirkland workers will install speed cushions to slow drivers down on NE 132nd St. beneath I-405 and adjust signage.
This will close the I-405 on- and off-ramps at NE 132nd St. from 9 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Friday.
NE 132nd St. under I-405 will also close. Signed detours will be in place.
Alternating traffic on SR 203 at Riley Slough near Monroe
SR 203 will alternate traffic 24 hours a day from 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, to 6 a.m. Monday for a paving project.
WSDOT will close one lane to repair the bridge deck at Riley Slough (milepost 22) near Monroe, with flaggers and pilot cars alternating northbound and southbound SR 203 traffic through the open lane. This work is dependent on dry weather and may need to be rescheduled if rain is forecast.
This work will require a second weekend of single-lane closures for bridge repairs at Riley Slough. These closures will be announced once the dates are finalized. Crews will continue regular overnight closures on SR 203 between Monroe and Duvall from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly, Monday through Friday mornings.
The highway was last paved in 2008, exceeding its 15-year life expectancy. This project is essential to maintain the road’s integrity.
Eastbound I-90 lane closures near SR 18 in Snoqualmie
Another project subject to weather is bridge maintenance and repairs at the I-90/SR 18 interchange in Snoqualmie.
WSDOT will close two left lanes on eastbound I-90 from east of State Route 18/Snoqualmie Parkway to SE N Bend Way (milepost 26-27) from 6 a.m. Saturday to 9 p.m. Sunday.
This could be rescheduled due to rain.
Overnight I-90 lane, ramp closures in Snoqualmie
Crews will perform utility work near the I-90/State Route 18 interchange in Snoqualmie, following this weekend’s bridge repairs in the same location.
Ramp closures in both directions of I-90 will run from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday nights through Friday mornings, beginning Oct. 18. The final overnight closure is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 8, through Monday morning, Nov. 9.
The Snoqualmie Parkway on-ramp to westbound I-90 and the eastbound I-90 off-ramp to westbound SR 18 will also close during these hours.
People traveling in these areas should seek alternate routes or plan for delays.
These closures support ongoing utility work to finalize the SR 18 widening between I-90 and Deep Creek project.
Sound Transit Crosslake Connection service suspended this weekend
Sound Transit has scheduled maintenance on the Crosslake Connection that will take up much of this weekend. During the closure, riders can take ST Shuttle buses, which will run every 10 minutes between Chinatown-International District and South Bellevue along the 2 Line route.
The closure runs all day Saturday, Oct. 17, and Sunday, Oct. 18. 2 Line trains will keep running normally between Downtown Redmond and South Bellevue, and 1 Line trains will run on schedule, every 8 minutes west of the lake.
Sounders FC fans going to Saturday night’s match against CF Montréal at Lumen Field will need to take the shuttle bus to cross the lake.
