A semi-truck driver drove off the roadway and into a patch of trees near Tiger Mountain Summit early Wednesday morning, causing lane closures and lengthy delays.

At approximately 6:00 a.m., Eastside Fire & Rescue (EFR) responded to the collision on westbound State Route 18 (SR 18) near MP 25, where the driver had sustained serious injuries, EFR announced.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) updated around 3 p.m. that all lanes were back open on SR 18 near Tiger Mountain Summit.

At 10:36 a.m., Washington State Patrol (WSP) Trooper Rick Johnson stated that the westbound 18 remained closed as crews are continuing to pull the FedEx truck out of the roadside.

Johnson revealed the driver had lacerations and a bump on the head, with extended traffic delays as the truck continues to be removed from the ditch.

The driver of the truck was transported to a nearby hospital.

At 8:36 a.m., WSDOT noted all lanes of WB SR 18 were fully blocked again. Officials advised travelers to seek alternate routes and expect delays throughout the area.

WSDOT posted an update at 7:38 a.m., noting the right lane of westbound SR 18 was blocked after a lane was previously reopened. Travelers were advised to expect delays throughout the area.

WSDOT previously posted on social media that a downed tree was fully blocking travel while crews worked to clear the roadway.
