Southbound I-405 has reopened in Renton after multiple lanes were shut down early Tuesday morning when a hit-and-run crash involving a car and a motorcycle led to a serious injury.

The closure on I-405 occurred near Sunset Boulevard in Renton just after 5 a.m. Southbound lanes were closed for nearly three hours.

The motorcyclist was the one who suffered a serious injury after the crash. According to Washington State Patrol (WSP) Trooper Rick Johnson, the driver in the car involved in the crash fled the scene, and it is now considered a “hit-and-run.”

“SB I-405 is closed near Sunset in Renton due to a motorcycle/car serious injury hit and run collision,” Johnson wrote on X earlier Tuesday morning. “This is being investigated as a vehicular assault. Trying to get a description of the running vehicle to share. More details to come.”

The closure caused traffic backups of more than two miles, as of this reporting.
