How long does it take you to get home on the Eastside? Is it a longer trip or shorter trip since the new I-405 Express Toll Lanes kicked in?
If there’s one thing we’ve learned in the KIRO Radio studios, it’s that when you talk about traffic times, it depends on who you ask.
According to our friends at The Everett Herald, many Snohomish County commuters have reported longer commutes post-tolling on I-405. The state has confirmed that is true, at least for the drive in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, while monitoring the afternoon commute, we’ve seen it picking up in Bothell from around 3:15 p.m. to 7 p.m., depending on special events and accidents.
“If you’re driving the entire 17 miles from Bellevue to Lynnwood, you might get home slightly sooner, but if you’re making a shorter trip north of SR 522 you’ll likely experience new delays,” according to the staff writers at the WSDOT Blog.
In the morning, those who travel the whole 17-mile corridor have seen improvement. One month into tolling, morning commuters made the Lynnwood-to-Bellevue trip on I-405 in roughly 40 minutes, about 20 minutes less than the same time a year ago.
So, basically, you’ll likely get to your annoying morning meeting on time, but your dog might have an accident waiting for you to get in the front door.
