4 unharmed in ‘horrific’ crash that shut down I-5 for hours

Four people were unharmed in a major crash that shut down I-5 for hours, reported the Seattle Fire Department (SFD)

All patients were transported to Harborview, according to SFD. A 49-year-old man is in stable condition, a 1-year-old boy is in stable condition, a 3-year-old girl has no reported injuries, and an adult woman also has no reported injuries.

Multiple lanes on I-5 were blocked in both directions at Northgate Way in Seattle after the collision, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) confirmed.

Crash blocked 8 lanes on I-5

Initially, five lanes heading north were blocked in addition to three southbound lanes before the wreckage was cleared.

“A crash involving a semi-truck has blocked all northbound lanes of I-5 just north of Northgate,” KIRO Newsradio traffic reporter Chris Sullivan said. “The crash appeared to have pushed the jersey barrier into the southbound lanes of I-5, blocking the HOV lane and two general purpose lanes southbound.”

Spike O’Neill says accident was ‘horrific’

“It was a horrific accident involving at least three cars and the semi, and the cars were destroyed,” KIRO host Spike O’Neill said while stuck in the ensuing traffic. “There was one car stuck near the cab of the semi. There was another car that was literally entwined into the load bed of the semi truck, and it was literally caught under the wheels and half (of the car) is under the semi.”
