Lanes are closed on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge for emergency repairs approaching westbound SR 16.

Bridge crews have closed the two right lanes on the span until further notice, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) reported Monday around 4:30 p.m.

The ramp from Jackson Avenue to westbound SR 16 is also closed.

Crews are working on repairing a steel beam beneath the bridge. WSDOT noted the bridge remains safe for travel in the two open lanes.

“WSDOT recognizes that the afternoon commute will be challenging and appreciates travelers’ patience and understanding as crews make these unscheduled repairs,” officials stated.

The emergency repair is the latest in a series of fixes to the bridge’s joints.

This is a developing story, check back for updates.
