Speed cameras are up in these Woodinville school zones

Woodinville has added speed cameras near certain school zones to encourage safer driving and protect students.
According to the Woodinville Police Chief, the two-year pilot program will specifically target the NE 195th Street corridor at Woodinville High School and Woodin Elementary School.
The pilot program will use advanced photo enforcement from NovoaGlobal to crack down on speeding during school hours. The system captures high-resolution imagery and video of the vehicle’s rear license plate.
A 2025 traffic study on NE 195th Street revealed that existing signage and flashing beacons were not enough to consistently slow traffic to safe levels.
“The introduction of these safety cameras is a direct response to community concerns about vehicle speeds near our schools,” Chief Nazariya said. “Our mission is to create a ‘buffer of safety’ for our students. We are utilizing data-driven solutions to ensure that the 20-mph limit is respected during core school commuting timeframes and when our children are present.”
The cameras went live on Sept. 1.
Warning period
Registered owners of vehicles exceeding the limit will receive a warning notice by mail for the first two months. The last day to receive a warning is Oct. 31.
After the awareness period, the system will move to full activation and a fine will be sent – similar to a parking ticket.
Fines
Standard Fine: $145.00 for speeds over 25 mph (Infractions in school zones do not impact driving records or insurance rates).
Graduated Fine: $250 for speeds over 30 mph
Every potential violation is manually reviewed and authorized by a Woodinville Police Officer before any notice is mailed.
As required by Senate Bill 2384, individuals who meet specific low-income criteria may request a 50% reduction in the fine amount.
“This isn’t about writing tickets; it’s about changing the culture of our commute,” said Chief Nazariya. “Every mile per hour slower gives a driver more time to react and a student a better chance of going home safe. It also reinforces drivers to stay attentive to changing roadway conditions, follow the rules of the road, and drive safely.”
Enforceable hours
Enforcement hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Wednesday is early dismissal. Enforcement hours are 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
